Don't Be afraid, Don't be very afraid.
Have you been to the airport recently and looked in wonder at the changes that have taken place there since 9-11. Billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of new employees, and hundreds of technological advances. Don't forget the thousands of box cutters and pocket knives that are no longer allowed. The sad thing is, the last time I was at the airport, I don't recall feeling any more secure than I did pre-attacks.
A recent paper from the cato institute (via boing boing) has finally validated what I have thought for a long time.
There is no reason to be afraid of being struck by terrorists. You might as well walk around town with a hat made of aluminum foil, because you are have about the same chance of being stuck by a terrorist as you do being struck by lightning. You don't see us spending billions of dollars on anti-lightning technology.
If we are going to be afraid of something, let's be afraid of something we actually have a risk seeing
